South African Numeracy Chair Project

We are a hub of mathematical activity, passion and innovation that blends teacher, learner and community numeracy development with research in mathematics education at Rhodes University in Makhanda. We are one of several mathematics education Chairs as part of the NRF's South African Research Chairs Initiative. Our key aims are to: improve the quality of teaching and learning in primary schools and in pre- and in-service education; research sustainable and practical solutions to the challenges of improving numeracy education; and provide leadership in the field of numeracy education locally and beyond.
