Rhodes graduation 2011

Rhodes University is pleased to see the number of black graduates increase by almost 100 compared to the numbers graduated in the last two years. In 2009, 712 black students graduated and in 2010, 724, while the 2011 number is sitting at a steady 815.

The Rhodes graduation ceremonies, taking place from 7 to 9 April, will see a total of 2045 students from all six faculties at the University being awarded degrees. A total of 1151 of these students will be obtaining their first-time qualifications, which includes diplomas, certificates and degrees, while 894 graduates will obtain their postgraduate qualifications.

The number of women students obtaining their tertiary education qualifications prior to embarking on professional careers continues to show a growing trend. Of the total number of students graduating this year, 835 are male graduates while at 1210 are female.

Within the six academic faculties at Rhodes, Humanities retains the largest number of graduates at 808, followed by Commerce at 483. The number of science graduates is still growing with the faculty coming in third again this year with 359 graduates. Further Education has 268, Law 64 and Pharmacy 63 graduates.
