Black Stars to Superstars

The Rhodes Investec Business School will hold a Business Forum entitled: BaGhana BaGhana: Black Stars to Superstars, a model of sustainable sponsorship.

The Forum provides a case study of the Ghanaian football team presented by Ian Taylor, Regional Director of Exp, The Demand Activation Agency, based in Nigeria.

While Managing Director of Group Africa Ghana Ltd from 2002 to 2005, Taylor was instrumental in developing and implementing the Goldfields Ghana sponsorship marketing agreement with the Ghana Football Association in 2005, in which Goldfields Ghana was the headline sponsor for the National Team ( Black Stars).

Through the sponsorship, the Black Stars qualified for the 2006 World Cup, for the first time, and again in 2010. An entire marketing strategy was developed around this sponsorship property.

Taylor also developed a successful Social Marketing proposal for AED in the bid process for the largest USAID bilateral agreement in Ghana which is still ongoing today.

In 2005 business Nigeria made a substantial loss, he was promoted to Regional Director of Exp in December 2005, with the primary function of ensuring the turnaround of the Nigerian business. By the end of 2009, Exp Nigeria had become the leading agency in Nigeria with a turnover in excess of $ 30 million.
