The new Rhodes University PBX system treats the following as emergency numbers – these numbers are not barred, and can be dialled from any phone on campus:

On-campus emergencies:

• 046-603.8999 or 046-603.8146/7 = CPU 24-hour Emergency Line

For any emergency on campus. Save this number on cell phones / emergency lists - the CPU will summon police / other emergency services as required.

NOTE: CPU is not equipped/qualified to transport injured/ill staff or students to hospital

• 1022 = Telkom emergenc call centre

• 10111 = National police emergency number

• 086 001 0111 = Crime Stop

Fire:

• 046 622 4444 = Makana fire brigade

• 080 111 4444 = Makana fire brigade (toll free)

Ambulance:

• 10177 = National ambulance service emergency number

• 082 911 = NetCare 911 (also National Sea Rescue Institute)

Poison Information Centres:

• 0861 555 777 = Poison Control Centre of South Africa

LifeLine:

• 0861 322 322 = LifeLine national counselling line (sharecall)

• 046-603.7070 or 082-803.0177 = Counselling Centre

• 046-603.7205 = Safety, Health and Environment (report conditions or structures on campus that are hazardous and pose a risk to health and safety)

• 046 602 5000 = Settlers Hospital
